The aim of this thesis is to develop a model for managing the workload of the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system’s Dispatcher services. The goal is to optimize Dispatcher performance, ultimately improving system reliability and reducing waiting times for end users.
Background:
Epiroc’s PLM system manages vital product data such as drawings, models, and change information. The Dispatcher servers perform several essential background tasks, including:
- Translating Creo CAD drawings into accessible PDF formats
- Converting Creo CAD models into JT format for broader use
- Compiling product structure reports in PDF format
A key challenge is anticipating and distributing the workload while managing error cases to ensure the system runs efficiently.
Mission:
As part of this project, your tasks will include:
- Modeling the load and performance of our Dispatcher servers
- Identifying bottlenecks and suggesting improvements based on model validation
Success will be determined by identifying actionable solutions to improve system performance and reduce bottlenecks.
Qualifications:
To excel in this project, we believe you should have knowledge in the following areas:
- Systems modeling (queue theory)
- Systems management
- Programming/scripting
