This SHEQ Officer Trainee role is located in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) Officer Trainee supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of SHEQ practices within our operations. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with local legislation, Epiroc’s SHEQ policies, and internationally recognized standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001. It offers an immersive experience designed to develop practical SHEQ expertise while contributing to a safe, healthy, environmentally responsible, and high-quality working environment.

As a SHEQ Officer Trainee, you will work closely with the safety and quality teams to assist in daily operations and initiatives across offices, workshops, warehouses, and industrial sites. The role involves hands-on support for risk assessments, incident investigations, environmental management, compliance audits, training, and reporting activities. This position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals eager to build foundational skills in occupational health and safety, environmental stewardship, and quality assurance within a dynamic, industrial context.

 

Your Mission

  • Safety & Health: Support daily SHEQ operations by assisting with risk assessments (including HIRA, JSEA, JSA), incident and near-miss reporting, emergency preparedness activities such as fire drills and first aid readiness, monitoring correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and tracking corrective/preventive actions.
  • Environmental Management: Aid in waste segregation and disposal monitoring, conduct environmental inspections focusing on spill risks and chemical storage, support environmental awareness campaigns, and help ensure compliance with environmental legislation and company policies.
  • Quality Management: Assist with document control (including procedures, forms, and records), participate in internal audits and follow up on non-conformities, monitor quality objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), and promote adherence to procedures and work instructions.
  • Training & Awareness: Facilitate SHEQ inductions for employees and contractors, support organization of training sessions and maintenance of training records, prepare awareness materials such as posters and safety alerts, and actively participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Reporting & Administration: Maintain accurate SHEQ documentation and registers, compile monthly SHEQ statistics and dashboards, support management reporting on SHEQ compliance, and assist with general administrative duties within the SHEQ team.

 

Your Profile:

 

  • Educational background with a license degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Basic understanding of SHEQ principles and familiarity with ISO standards 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), 14001 (Environmental Management), and 9001 (Quality Management).
  • Awareness and knowledge of relevant Côte d’Ivoire occupational health, safety, environment, and quality legislation and regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain detailed and accurate reporting.
  • Comfort and ability to work effectively in industrial and field environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to understand and operate in English, both written and spoken.
