The mission of the Software Architect – Control Systems is to lead the design and evolution of embedded control software architectures that power Epiroc’s mining, drilling, and construction equipment. This role focuses on building scalable, modular, and safety-compliant platforms that integrate advanced control logic, sensor technologies, and real-time responsiveness.

As a technical leader, the architect will define system-level design strategies, guide development teams, and ensure seamless hardware-software integration across global deployments. By driving innovation and architectural excellence, this role enables Epiroc to deliver intelligent, autonomous, and future-ready control systems that support operational efficiency and sustainability in demanding environments.

Job Description:

To architect and lead the development of advanced control systems for mining, drilling, and construction equipment. This role combines deep technical expertise in embedded software and control logic with strategic system-level thinking, enabling scalable, reliable, and safety-compliant automation platforms across Epiroc’s global product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with customers to gather, analyze, and understand project requirements.
  • Architect scalable control software platforms using Codesys V3.5 and Structured Text.
  • Define system-level design patterns, software interfaces, and integration strategies for embedded control systems.
  • Lead technical reviews and guide development teams on best practices in embedded software design.
  • Collaborate with hardware, automation, and product teams to ensure seamless integration of control logic with physical systems.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including system descriptions, interface specifications, and user manuals.
  • Drive innovation in control systems through sensor fusion, actuator coordination, and real-time responsiveness.
  • Support global deployment and customization of control platforms across mining and construction equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety-critical standards and communication protocols (CAN, J1939, LIN).

 

• Write and maintain efficient and reliable code in C and Python for embedded applications.

• Utilize C++ and Linux for cross-platform development and optimization (good to have).

• Apply knowledge of Matlab and Simulink for modeling, simulation, and analysis in control systems (advantageous).

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Computer Science.
  • 8+ years of experience in embedded software development and control systems architecture.
  • Expertise in CoDeSys V2.3/V3.5, Embedded C, C++ and Python.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and system modeling.
  • Experience with Linux-based embedded platforms and cross-platform development.
  • Knowledge of IO interfaces (PWM, ADC, DAC, Digital IO) and sensor/actuator integration.
  • Proficiency in communication protocols: CAN, J1939, LIN, Ethernet.
  • Strong debugging and optimization skills for real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with Matlab/Simulink for control modeling and simulation.

Nice to Have:

    • Experience in heavy machinery control systems (mining, construction, automotive).
    • Electrical knowledge with IO interface knowledge of the target hardware (PWM, ADC, DAC, Digital IO) 
    • Working experience on sensor and actuator interface, understanding on electronic control systems 
    • Working experience on communication protocols like CAN, J1939 
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Self-starter with curiosity to learn and an exploratory mindset
    • Agile certifications (Scrum Master, Product Owner).
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work in international, cross-functional environments.
