HEAD OF BA CONTROL SYSTEMS & PLATFORMS
Are you a bold, product-minded technology leader who believes software and AI should sit at the very core of industrial performance? Do you thrive in complex environments where architectural decisions directly translate into customer value, speed, and competitive advantage?
We are now seeking a senior and highly impactful Head of BA Control Systems & Platforms to lead one of Epiroc’s most critical transformation initiatives within Business Area Equipment & Service (E&S).
About the role
As Head of BA Control Systems & Platforms you are responsible for defining and implementing Epiroc’s futureproof, software centric technology backbone. In this role, you will improve today’s fragmented control system and digital landscape with a scalable, secure, and value driven vehicle operating system (VOS) and AI enabled platforms. The aim is to improve speed, serviceability, cost efficiency, and monetization across the full equipment lifecycle.
This is a hands-on, product, and value driven transformation role with full accountability for turning software and AI into measurable business outcomes. You will be empowered to make decisive architectural and investment choices, decommission legacy solutions, and enforce standardization where it creates speed and scale.
The position is hosted by the Underground Division (UMR), based in Sweden or the US, and reports to Business Area President Jess Kindler. You will operate with strong executive sponsorship and visibility at senior leadership level.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and deploy a modular, scalable Vehicle Operating System (VOS) that becomes the single software and AI backbone for future equipment platforms.
- Simplify and harmonize the control system landscape by converging fragmented variants into a unified VOS roadmap.
- Design a clear separation of hardware, operating system, middleware, and application layers to enable faster innovation and reuse.
- Establish a robust make/buy/partner strategy that balances speed, quality, and long‑term strategic control.
- Enable secure over‑the‑air (OTA) updates as a standard capability across platforms, including lifecycle management and version control.
Experience and requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software platforms, embedded systems, or software‑defined products.
- Proven track record of leading large‑scale platforms, VOS, or software architecture transformations.
- Strong understanding of embedded software, cybersecurity, and OTA architectures.
- Experience working with AI‑enabled products and data platforms in industrial or asset‑heavy contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to turn software platforms into measurable revenue growth, cost reduction, or service performance improvement.
- Leadership experience in global matrix organizations with global and divisional complexity.
- Fluency in English is required, both written and spoken.
