HEAD OF BA PORTFOLIO & INNOVATION MANAGEMENT
Are you a decisive, value‑driven innovation leader who believes that speed, focus, and return on investment matter more than technical perfection? Do you thrive in complex, global industrial environments where challenging prioritization and execution discipline turn innovation into profitable growth?
We are now seeking a senior and impactful Head of BA Portfolio & Innovation Management to lead one of Epiroc’s most critical transformation initiatives within Business Area Equipment & Service (E&S).
About the role
As Head of BA Portfolio & Innovation Management, you will lead the transformation of Epiroc’s R&D into a high‑impact, capital‑efficient innovation engine. Your mission is to significantly increase return on R&D investment, cut time‑to‑market, and ensure that innovation consistently translates into profitable growth, cost leadership, and competitive differentiation.
This is a hands‑on, outcome‑driven leadership role that focuses on actively reallocating R&D capital. Together with the Divisions, you will not only decide what initiatives to stop, but also descope low‑return initiatives, simplify portfolios, and enforce speed and ROI discipline across divisions. You will challenge existing ways of working and intervene directly where innovation execution stalls.
The role is hosted by the Surface Division (SRD), based in Asia, and reports to Business Area President Jess Kindler. You will operate with strong sponsorship and high visibility at senior leadership level, working across divisions, R&D organizations, and global innovation hubs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and steer a unified R&D portfolio model, ensuring transparency, prioritization, and disciplined capital allocation across divisions.
- Actively reallocate R&D spend toward the highest‑return core innovation initiatives, while stopping or exiting low‑value and non‑strategic projects.
- Simplify development processes and decision flows to materially reduce time‑to‑market and increase execution speed.
- Set ambitious targets for cost, performance, and development cycle time.
- Drive strong integration of aftermarket value, lifecycle cost, and value realization into capital product development.
- Track post‑launch value realization and link R&D funding to delivered outcomes.
- Accelerate the shift of R&D execution toward China and India to improve speed, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Introduce benchmarking and best‑practice transfer across global R&D locations.
- Identify, develop, and elevate R&D leaders and teams who deliver strong business impact.
Experience and requirements
- 10+ years of experience in senior R&D leadership, product leadership, or technology‑intensive P&L roles within industrial or complex engineering environments.
- Proven track record of managing large R&D portfolios with clear capital allocation responsibility and measurable ROI improvement.
- Demonstrated success in accelerating time‑to‑market and improving R&D productivity at scale.
- Strong exposure to and experience working with innovation ecosystems in China and/or India.
- Deep understanding of industrial product development, platform thinking, and lifecycle economics.
- Fluency in English is required, both written and spoken.
