The mission of the Senior Benefits Specialist is to ensure high quality and accurate benefit services to applicable Epiroc business units as well as ensure a high level of customer satisfaction for all services rendered.  The Benefits Specialist will be responsible for administration of benefit plans and processes.

Primay Responsibilities:

  • Administer corporate benefits programs, including but not limited to group health/welfare plans, 401k retirement plans, and leave of absence while maintaining alignment with company culture, strategic initiatives, and long-term goals.
  • Responsible for preparing employee census and working with third party administrator on 401k Non-Discrimination Testing (NDT).
  • Work closely with 401k plan auditor providing documentation and answering questions on 401k plan to assist in the completion of Form 5500 and filing with DOL.
  • Assist with compliance reporting (e.g., Affordable Care Act, CMS reporting, etc.)
  • Partner with benefits consultants, brokers, third party administrators and other providers. 
  • Analyze plans to evaluate cost drivers and monitor financial metrics. Based on results, recommend changes to policies and programs to align benefit strategies with the company’s business model and to stay competitive in the market.
  • Responsible for auditing benefit plan enrollments.
  • Manage the billing process including the timely payment of all vendor invoices.
  • Support open enrollment and new hire benefits enrollment process.
  • Implement new benefit programs including communication of new programs.
  • Respond to benefit inquiries from active and former employees in a timely manner.
  • Review and resolve issues with premium deductions working with the payroll team to correct.
  • Work with internal and external partners to test and update systems for accuracy of data exchanges; conduct audits and implements solutions as needed to correct defects. 
  • Analyzes and advises Manager regarding system advancements & employee capabilities recommending area of focus to maximize system efficiency and utilization as well as making appropriate system adjustments.
  • Assist Manager with overall benefits content on Benefits SharePoint page, shared folder, and HR website including plan documents, benefit summaries, benefit policies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefit programs including HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, ACA and DOL requirements.
  • Proficient PC skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Advanced Excel skills preferable.
  • Solid understanding of employee benefits including administrative, legal, and financial issues relating to health, welfare, and retirement plans.  
  • Detail oriented and possess research and analytical talents with the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems.  UKG Pro or Ceridian experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • 6 to 8 years of experience in benefits functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree business, human resources or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Proven ability to analyze issues/problems, identify root causes and implement solutions.
