Business Controller

We are Epiroc, and if “you dare to think new” you may be as excited as we are to present a dynamic opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated Business Controller. The position will be based out of our production center in Kingston, ON and it offers a hybrid work schedule. 
The Business Controller will play a key role in driving the transformation of our financial and business control function. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will lead all aspects of the month end process including but not limited to financial statement preparation and supporting documentation and balance sheet reconciliations. It will also provide oversight of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions in addition to facilitating the FP&A function. 
This role will support the development of our internal controls framework, all statutory requirements, and filings as well as compliance to group policies and procedures (The Epiroc Way). You will also serve as the main point of contact between operations and the Epiroc CoE hub.
In addition to working closely with the GM you will also partner with key players in operations, business development, and R&D.

 

What you will do
•    Drive a culture of continuous improvement by setting high quality expectations that reflect our values and drive the ethos of financial accuracy and strategic cost control.
•    Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with the Group and regulatory standards.
•    Drive the annual budgeting process by working closely with key members of the PC.
•    Analyze and present monthly financial results to key leaders including commentary and review of variance analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities.
•    Work closely with business partners to identify, track, and manage risks and opportunities to committed budget/forecast.
•    Manage cash flow planning and reporting.
•    Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS), tax regulations, and internal policies.
•    Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including documentation and follow-up.
•    Design, implement and monitor internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
•    Drive and participate in the annual testing of our risk and control matrix.
•    Monitor and report on cost variances and inefficiencies.
•    Develop and maintain standard costs for products and services.
•    Collaborate with production planning, sourcing, and operations teams to ensure cost control measures are in place.
•    Support the month-end and year-end closing process with accurate cost accounting data.•    Together with the Operations Manager, analyze profitability and cost structures for new projects and product lines.
•    Assist in the preparation and review of capital expenditure proposals.
•    Provide financial insights and recommendations to management based on cost analysis.
•    Support the development and implementation of enhanced tools and processes including Power BI.

 

What you will need
•    Bachelor’s degree from College or University with a specialty in Finance or Accounting.
•    Enrolment/completion of professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
•    A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting, financial or business control roles.
•    A thorough knowledge of Microsoft office and working knowledge of Power BI.
•    Strong planning and organizational skills to coordinate workload around multiple activities. 
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to evaluate alternatives and formulate recommendations in support of management decision making. 
•    Ability to lead and collaborate across functions. 
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•    High ethical standards and integrity.
