Modeling and Drafting - Student
Kingston, ON, CA, K7M 4W9
JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Modeling and Drafting Intern to join our design team. In this role, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between legacy designs and our current workflow by migrating complex 3D models from SolidWorks to Fusion. Additionally, you will perform hands-on reverse engineering by taking physical measurements of real-world components and translating them into accurate, high-quality 3D digital models. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in industrial design, CAD data management, and product development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• CAD Migration: Accurately recreate or convert existing 3D assemblies and parts from SolidWorks into Autodesk Fusion, ensuring parametric integrity is maintained.
• Reverse Engineering: Utilize precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to extract dimensions from physical parts and develop corresponding 3D models.
• Technical Documentation: Generate detailed 2D technical drawings and BOMs (Bill of Materials) from completed 3D models.
• Design Validation: Ensure all digital models align with physical specifications and functional requirements.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the engineering team to optimize designs for manufacturing and assembly within the Fusion environment.
Modeling and Drafting Intern
EXPERIENCE:
• Software Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced skills in Autodesk Fusion (essential) and familiarity with SolidWorks.
• Metrology: Proven ability to use manual measurement tools accurately for reverse engineering tasks.
• Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints and technical schematics.
• Attention to Detail: A high degree of precision in modeling to ensure parts fit correctly in real-world applications.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to recreate lost design intent when converting files between different CAD platforms.
KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION:
• Currently enrolled in (or a recent graduate of) a Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, Mechanical Drafting, or a related technical field.
• Ability to work on-site to handle physical parts and measurement equipment.
