Mission of the role:
The SHEQ Officer is responsible for safeguarding employees, visitors, and the environment by minimizing workplace hazards and reducing environmental impact. This role ensures compliance with legal and quality standards, promoting a safe and efficient working environment. Key duties include maintaining compliance documentation, managing regulatory reporting for incidents and claims, and compiling monthly SHEQ performance reports to support continuous improvement.
Your mission:
- Risk Assessments: Identify workplace hazards and evaluate risks to prevent accidents.
- Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site walkabouts to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and internal SOPs.
- Incident Investigations: Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and injuries, and prepare comprehensive reports to prevent recurrence.
- Training & Drills: Coordinate and facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and emergency evacuation drills.
- PPE Management: Oversee the requisition, issue, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Standard Compliance: Ensure that products, services, and operational processes meet international standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Non-Conformance Tracking: Identify and document non-conforming processes or products, investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Customer Feedback: Evaluate customer complaints and feedback to recommend service or product improvements.
Your Profile:
- SHEQ officer a Matric (Grade 12) certificate
- 3-5 years minimum experience in similar role
- Accredited NQF Level 5 or higher safety qualifications. Practical experience and knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
- Legislative Compliance: A deep understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA)
- The ability to conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) to proactively identify workplace hazards and implement control measures.
- Incident Investigation: Skill in applying root-cause analysis to workplace incidents, determining corrective actions, and handling compensation claims.
- Auditing and Reporting: Proficiency in performing safety audits, tracking non-conformance, and compiling accurate compliance reports. Emergency Preparedness: The capability to design, implement, and lead emergency response, evacuation, and first-aid procedures.
