Mission    

As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and improving the performance of our suppliers. You will work to ensure that our suppliers are capable of meeting current and future business needs in terms of quality, delivery and cost. The role involves extensive collaboration with internal teams such as purchasing, engineering, and manufacturing, as well as regular interaction with supplier personnel.

What are the main tasks and responsibilities of this job?    
1. Supplier Evaluation and Selection:
•    Conduct supplier audits to assess manufacturing capabilities, quality management systems and process controls.
•    Evaluate supplier performance based on key metrics such as quality, delivery and responsiveness.
•    Participate in the selection of new suppliers alongside the procurement and engineering teams.

 

2.  Quality improvement:
•    Work directly with suppliers to identify process improvements and enhance quality control measures.
•    Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier related issues, including monitoring and reducing NCR / CFR claims against AARD.
•    Implement quality management practices such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen at the supplier sites.

 

3.  Supplier Development:
•    Develop training and development programs for the suppliers to enhance their capabilities.
•    Provide technical and engineering support to suppliers to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
•    Manage supplier upgrade projects, including technology and process enhancements.

 

4.  Cost Reduction and Efficiency:
•    Identify opportunities for cost reduction or process optimization in supply chain.
•    Collaborate with suppliers to implement cost effective solutions without compromising quality.
•    Monitor and report on cost savings initiatives and their impact.
•    Identify opportunities for CO2 reduction and monitor supplier performance against Epiroc's Global Standard.

 

5.  Communication and Collaboration:
•    Serve as the primary technical liaison between AARD and suppliers.
•    Facilitate communication between supplier and internal teams to ensure alignment on specifications and expectations.
•    Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth introduction to new products or changes in existing products.

 

6.  Risk Management:
•    Monitor and manage risks associated with supplier dependency and performance.
•    Develop contingency plans to ensure supply chain continuity in case of supplier failure.

 

Competences, skills and experience    
•    Bachelor's degree in engineering, Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
•    Proven experience (3+ years) in supplier management or quality management in a manufacturing environment.
•    Strong knowledge of ISO:9001 standards
•    Experience with lean manufacturing tools such as Six Sigma, Kaizen.
•    Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
•    Ability to travel as required.
•    Proficiency in ERP systems.

 

Qualification and skills:
•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
•    Proven experience (3+ years) in supplier management or quality management in a manufacturing environment.
