Are you ready?

About the Role

As an R&D Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining the electrical control systems and components for a range of cutting-edge products, including drill & blast and exploration machines. Your expertise will be essential not only in new product development but also in refining existing products through continuous improvements that enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Your responsibilities will encompass the entire development lifecycle—from concept design through to implementation and serial production handover, as well as providing ongoing support to manufacturing and field service operations. Collaboration is key in this role; you will work closely with cross-functional teams within Epiroc, engage with suppliers, and support customer service to ensure product excellence and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems and software tailored for surface drilling and mining equipment, focusing on innovation and practical application.
  • Maintain and upgrade existing electrical systems to support continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Create specialized designs to fulfill unique customer requirements, supported by thorough engineering calculations.
  • Prepare detailed Bills of Material (BOM) and collaborate closely with the purchasing department to ensure precise product specifications are met.
  • Produce comprehensive engineering documentation and ensure compliance with company policies and international standards, including ISO 13849 functional safety.
  • Select and define appropriate electrical components, recommending options and liaising effectively with suppliers to optimize quality and cost-efficiency.
  • Support the sourcing team in supplier selection and qualification processes.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing teams for resolving electrical system issues and developing practical solutions.
  • Offer field support to technical service units and customer centers, addressing any challenges related to electrical components or systems.
  • Develop and document new testing procedures to validate product performance and safety.
  • Engage in occasional business travel for development purposes and customer visits, including working in diverse and challenging environments such as mines and construction sites.

Candidate Profile

We seek a motivated Electrical Engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering and Automation or a closely related field. Candidates with 3+ years of experience in electrical design within the heavy construction machinery sector are preferred, particularly those with expertise in mining or drilling machinery. Strong foundational knowledge in electrical system design, vehicle control systems, and fieldbus technologies such as CAN and Ethernet communication is essential.

Hands-on experience with vehicle application controllers and programming PLCs according to IEC-61131 standards is required; familiarity with CodeSYS 3.5 is a distinct advantage. Proficiency in engineering design software like AutoCAD and Creo for both 2D and 3D drafting is important, along with experience in wire harness design. Knowledge of relevant international regulations and standards governing off-road mobile machinery will be beneficial.

Additional programming skills in C and C++ for Industrial PC systems, as well as exposure to new energy systems in construction machinery, will be considered a plus. Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory to facilitate effective communication within our global network.

Desired Behaviors and Work Ethic

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with an eye for detail and a high sense of responsibility.
  • Flexibility and openness to working within a manufacturing environment and adapting to changing project requirements.
  • Willingness to travel and operate in challenging physical environments, such as mines and construction sites, ensuring practical insights into product performance.
  • A team-oriented mindset that embraces diversity and inclusivity in problem-solving and innovation.
