Position Summary

As a Firmware Engineer within the Infrastructure team, you will leverage your electrical engineering expertise and embedded firmware skills to diagnose issues, develop robust electrical control systems, and optimize firmware for performance and reliability. The role requires multidisciplinary collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and field service teams to deliver safe, reliable, and serviceable electrification products designed to operate in demanding mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults in electrical, electronic, communication, controls, and embedded systems across prototype, test, production, and field equipment with a methodical, evidence-based approach.
  • Design, develop, and support both high-voltage and low-voltage power distribution and control systems including contactors, relays, sensors, actuators, and associated wiring harnesses.
  • Interpret, create, and update comprehensive electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness layouts, panel designs, connector specifications, and bill of materials aligned with configuration and revision control standards.
  • Program, load, validate, and recover firmware on embedded microcontrollers and electronic control units using standardized tools, bootloaders, and release protocols.
  • Manage software and hardware configuration changes such as parameter tuning, calibration updates, network settings, and controller configuration ensuring full traceability and documentation.
  • Capture and analyze data logs including fault codes, waveforms, and network traffic through tools such as CAN, Ethernet, and serial interfaces facilitating robust diagnostics and root-cause analysis.
  • Develop and maintain PLC software and human-machine interfaces for equipment control, test rigs, and infrastructure support, ensuring clarity and functionality.
  • Utilize a range of diagnostic instruments, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and insulation testers, to isolate electrical issues and verify system safety and performance.
  • Plan and conduct comprehensive bench, subsystem, machine, and commissioning tests, documenting all results meticulously to demonstrate compliance with design requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead investigations into complex hardware-software interactions to identify, implement, and verify effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide hands-on support in wiring, panel assembly, harness modification, component replacement, and commissioning activities in laboratory, production, and field settings ensuring adherence to safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware developers, system engineers, manufacturing, suppliers, and service personnel to solve technical challenges, enhance diagnostics and improve overall product design.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Controls, or related engineering field.
  • Minimum three years of experience with electrical equipment, embedded controllers, industrial automation, mobile machinery, or electromechanical systems.
  • Solid grounding in DC/AC circuit theory, power distribution, protective systems, grounding practices, isolation techniques and electrical safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text, function blocks) and embedded controllers including I/O systems, sensors, actuators and state-based control methods.
  • Proficient understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, and serial interfaces used for command, diagnostics, and data exchange.
  • Ability to read and develop technical documentation including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, panel layouts and component datasheets.
  • Practical skills in electrical/electronic laboratory procedures including energized testing, wiring, instrumentation and prototype evaluation.
  • Familiarity with engineering configuration control, revision management, release documentation, and test evidence traceability.
  • Analytical mindset equipped to isolate complex interactions between hardware and software and assess field conditions critically.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Chinese, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with battery-electric mining equipment, off-road heavy machinery, charging infrastructure, and industrial power systems.
  • Knowledge in high-voltage battery technologies, battery management systems, inverters, motors, power converters, chargers, insulation monitoring, and interlock systems.
  • Working proficiency in embedded programming languages such as C, C++, and Python for diagnostics, testing, and firmware updates.
  • Exposure to embedded Linux, real-time operating systems, debugging tools, build systems, and firmware release management.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN analysis and calibration tools, diagnostic databases, message decoding, and parameter management.
  • Experience in PCB design processes including schematic capture, board bring-up, component selection, soldering, rework and fault analysis.
  • Knowledge in hardware-in-the-loop testing, automated test systems, fault injection, model-based simulation, and functional safety standards.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), machinery safety regulations, and electrical standards relevant to industrial/mobile equipment.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, energy storage, and industrial power distribution panels.
