Job Title: Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager System Architect
The job title may vary, depending upon the years of experience and internal parity.
Are you a seasoned Electrical & Automation Engineer with a proven track record in Harness design, HMI & PLC Programming, Electrical Schematic design, and Electrical Component selection for Mobile Heavy Equipment? Do you have extensive experience in 24V DC Electrical Control systems, coupled with Hydraulic knowledge? Key Responsibilities are:
- Define the overall machine control system architecture, including hardware, software layers, communication networks, and safety structures.
- Develop high-level functional requirements and allocate functions across ECUs, PLCs, HMIs, I/O modules, and sensors.
- Establish system-level communication frameworks (CAN, CANOpen, J1939, EtherCAT, etc.) and ensure interoperability of all subsystems.
- Create and maintain system architecture diagrams, interfaces, data flows, and integration maps.
- Lead cross-functional discussions between mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, software, and safety teams to ensure cohesive system behavior.
- Evaluate system performance holistically and drive improvements in reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Ensure architectural decisions meet product lifecycle needs such as modularity, serviceability, diagnostics, and future upgrades.
- Support system-level FMEA, hazard analysis, and functional safety design activities.
HMI & PLC Programming and Troubleshooting:
- Develop, program, and troubleshoot Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) for seamless equipment operation.
- Resolve complex electrical and automation system issues effectively and efficiently.
- Write logic for PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
- Develop screens and logic for HMIs (Human–Machine Interfaces).
- Configure drives, ECUs, I/O modules, and safety controllers.
Controls Systems
- Develop control architectures for machines, equipment, or processes.
- Select sensors, controllers, actuators, PLCs, HMIs, and communication networks.
- Ensure designs meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform system testing, debugging, and optimization.
- Validate machine performance, safety functions, and control responses.
- Experience with Control Systems integration for Underground Mining / Construction Equipment .
- Strong understanding of control algorithms for drilling carriers, traction control, and stability systems.
- Hands-on experience with machine control modules (ECUs), safety controllers, and distributed I/O for underground drilling equipment.
- Expertise in troubleshooting control issues including propulsion, steering, braking, and boom interaction.
- Knowledge of CANOpen, J1939, and proprietary carrier control networks used in Boomer rigs.
- Experience with system validation, endurance testi and optimization of carrier control parameters.
- Ability to interpret system logs, CAN traces, and diagnostic data related to carrier movement and operational cycles.
- Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 13849/IEC 61508) applicable to carrier systems in underground mining machines. Conduct risk assessments and incorporate required safety levels (e.g., PL d/e)
- Diagnose electrical, software, or control issues in machines.
- Analyze logs, CAN traces, sensor signals, and control responses.
- Ensure different machine subsystems (hydraulics, electrical, mechanical, engine, carrier, etc.) work harmoniously.
- Work with communication protocols like CAN, Modbus, Profibus, Ether CAT, etc
- Prototype new control algorithms, such as traction control, stability control, or boom control
- Design and validate systems according to functional safety standards:
- ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508
- Conduct risk assessments and incorporate required safety levels (e.g., PL d/e).
Electrical Schematic Design:
- Create detailed electrical schematics, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
Electrical Component Selection:
- Leverage your expertise to select appropriate electrical components, considering factors such as performance, durability, and compatibility with Mobile Heavy Equipment.
24V DC Electrical Control System Expertise:
- Demonstrate a strong hands-on experience with 24V DC Electrical Control systems, ensuring robust and reliable performance.
Hydraulic Knowledge (Advantage):
- Utilize your hydraulic knowledge to enhance system integration and functionality, contributing to the overall efficiency of the equipment.
Engine & CAN Communication:
- Proficiently manage Engine Controller Area Network (CAN) communication protocols to facilitate seamless information exchange between various components.
Machine Proving and Troubleshooting:
- Lead machine proving activities to validate and fine-tune electrical and automation systems, ensuring optimal performance.
- Conduct in-depth troubleshooting to identify and address any electrical or automation-related issues.
New Product Development:
- Contribute significantly to the development of new products, providing technical expertise in electrical and automation systems.
CE Documentation:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of CE documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Education & Experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s / master’s degree in electrical and Automation Engineering, or related field.
- 10-20 years of hands-on experience in Electrical & Automation Engineering for Mobile Heavy Equipment.
- Proficiency in Harness design, HMI & PLC Programming, Electrical Schematic design, and Electrical Component selection.
- Extensive experience with 24V DC Electrical Control systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems (an added advantage).
- Expertise in Engine CAN Communication.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
