Job Title - AM / DM - Engineering

Job Responsibility

The main responsibilities for the Technical Product Responsible (TPR) on respective product are:

 

General

  • Coordinate and resolve all technical queries regarding the product
  • Secure proper risk handling in ongoing activities
  • Give support in product related questions on today’s and old products
  • Participate in relevant forums/meetings e.g. Project Meetings, Field Situation Meetings (FSM), Production Situation Meetings (PSM), TPM meetings (test planning meetings) for both lab-tests and field tests, with the objective to take a leading role ensuring that the cross functional organization effectively find optimal compromises using a fully holistic and customer centric approach.
  • Handle deviations from Technical Specifications or drawings in case overall Product Specification and/or Product characteristics are influenced.
  • Ensure, in conjunction with relevant stakeholders, that development work is done in accordance with the Epiroc URE Design Manual
  • Coordinate –and when applicable initiate relevant tests related to ongoing activities. Cooperate with –and support other roles involved in testing activities e.g. Design Area Responsible, Technical Service Engineers. Always monitor & promote safety at testing.
  • Secure a good dialog with other Technical Product Responsible and local Technical Product Responsible at other Production Companies.
  • Continuously work with improving the way we are working

Legal

  • Responsible for overall health and safety and applicable legal product requirements e.g. by managing the environmental- and safety- reviews/ inspections on the product
  • Responsible for verifying that all requested documents are available in the Technical File for new, present and phased out products
  • Secure that the documents in Technical File are maintained and up to date for present products and phased out products
  • Secure that design changes fulfil the safety and legal requirements
  • Responsible to promptly inform the Products R&D Manager and were applicable also the Team Leader Products R&D if potential Products Safety issues occur.

 

Overall product specification and characteristics

 

  • Work continuously to secure that product specification is fulfilled and up to date
  • Work continuously to improve and safeguard the Product reliability both on present Products and in projects.
  • Establish and take ownership of an effective reliability KPI for your product/s.
  • Track and analyze the actual trend of performance and reliability level during operation in different applications and conditions (e.g. normal, abuse, remote, autonomous)
  • Support in annual target setting in CPI as well as in NPD projects.
  • Ensure that identified and needed actions are initiated and managed by you or by other roles in the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to the Reliability Growth Process, acc. the global Design Manual in MS1 and cooperate with related stakeholders with a make it happened approach.
  • Work continuously to improve the Product quality on present Products and in projects.
  • Responsible for Product stability-, weight- and transport dimensions.

 

Customer needs and application knowledge

  • Understand and work for fulfillment of Customer needs in different applications
  • Perform customer visits every year

 

Projects and cross functional activities

  • Be the receiver of results from product development projects.
  • It is especially important to confirm and agree that the new –or modified Products actually fulfil the Reliability targets as defined in the project scope.
  • Be Technical Product Responsible in new product and/or basic development projects.
  • As Technical Product Responsible included in the Engineering Sub Project team:
  • Supply an updated Reliability base line for your Product and its functional groups together with the Design Area Responsible (DAR) and the Control System Development Centre Responsible (CDC).
  • The reliability base line together with your own experience will serve as a foundation setting realistic reliability targets within the project.
  • Act as Technical Project Manager in new product and/or basic development projects when suitable
  • Act as Project Manager in new product and/or basic development projects when suitable
  • Act as cross functional case holder for large or complex CPI cases when suitable (e.g. Product safety cases, Functional Development cases or Customer Specials).
  • Act as temporary case holder for Customer Special Orders until the formal case holder is appointed according to the Customer Special Order process. 

 

Product improvements and documentation

  • Initiate and/or secure needed changes and improvements of the product
  • Secure proper prioritization between proposed- and ongoing activities
  • Secure proper coordination when implementing changes and improvements
  • Be the owner of the CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) list for concerned Products and secure that:
  • All CPI cases relating to your Product (incl. all Product Safety cases) shall be properly documented and continuously kept up-to date in the CPI Priority tool.
  • Follow up CPI cases regularly to secure progress and “Highlight important CPI cases to the CPI Product Team via your Manager” – as key input to overall prioritizations.
  • Follow up that set CPI targets are being met and propose actions if needed.
  • Be the owner of the Check Lists BOM for overall Product configuration as well as Product BOM for continuous cost follow up
  • Secure proper handling of Change Notice (CN):
  • Always consider PK effects, and finding the optimal balance between PK and Reliability, when approving CN:s. When applicable also seek approval from the Product Manager role in Marketing.
  • Always consider dangerous goods classification.
  • Always consider overall costs vs. benefits involved in the change Etc. (according to the CN Process)
  • Forward identified future product needs to the Product Manager (PM) and  the Basic Development Manager (BDM) and/or other relevant stakeholders

 

Authority

The main authorities for the Technical Product Responsible are:

 

  • Chair meetings regarding environmental- and safety- reviews/ inspections on the Product
  • Manage the Technical File documentation for the own product family
  • Reject product implementation if health, safety, environmental or legal aspects are not fulfilled
  • Stop planned or ongoing activities if health, safety, environmental or legal aspects are not fulfilled
  • Reject product implementation if the quality of the deliverables are not up to defined requirements.
  • Special attention shall be given to secure fulfilment of set Product reliability targets with a balanced impact on PK, as well as a continuous growth of the product reliability in all product development.
  • Approve or disapprove deviations from Technical Specifications or drawings, when delegated from the Products R&D Manager (i.e. a first judgment of all new cases shall always be made by the Manager), in case overall Product Specifications and/or Product characteristics are influenced.
  • Access- and review all activities relating to the Product to be able to contribute with own viewpoints in order to be committed to accept and receive the results
  • Approve or disapprove Change Notice with CN class between 1.0 - 4.0; CN classes 1.0 - 2.2 also need approval according to local Prokura
  • Create new and modify existing Check Lists BOM for overall Product configuration
  • Initiate, manage and reject CPI cases in the CPI Priority Tool for concerned Products
  • Agree to –or reject proposed R&D completion date from DAR (Design Area Responsible)
  • Financial authority to issue orders and sign invoices according to local Prokura

 

Educational & Experience requirements:

  • M.E / M. Tech / B.E. / B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from reputed institutions
  • 10-15 years in Construction/Mining Equipment Lead in R&D, Lead Complete NPD project in experience through product life cycle
  • Experience with Underground Mining Products, Face Drill, Production Drill will be added Advantage

    

Competence skills:

  • Handling 100 % BOM, Variants, Cross functional Teams meetings, daily war rooms meetings
  • Is competent and aware of current, state-of-the-art Machine Performance, specification, Reliability, Design Verification Plan and Sign offs.
  • Good understanding in Powertrain, Hydraulics, Structures function and good at working with cross functional teams
  • Highly motivated & self-driven engineering professional with an Innovation fueled approach
  • Ideally a Creative thinker and at the same time a problem solver & decision maker in whole product development cycle.
  • Good understanding of Hydraulic, Powertrain, Cabin & Structures planning for Homologation and regulatory procedures.
  • Design and tune core component installation and component operating environment within the vehicle, in accordance with the installation guidelines / Subsystem Design Specifications
  • Proficiency in Creo and Teamcenter.
  • Exposure to M3 or SAP is a plus
  • Experience in designing Underground mining products is an added advantage
