Job Description – Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Role Overview
The Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of electrical and electronic systems for off-highway machines. The role involves system architecture development, high-voltage system design, electrification solutions, power distribution, and electrical component integration across the complete product lifecycle from concept to production.
The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams including mechanical, controls, software, manufacturing, and validation teams to deliver safe, reliable, and regulatory-compliant electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical System Architecture & Design
- Design and develop complete electrical architecture for machines and vehicles including HV/LV systems.
- Develop system architecture for battery packs, power distribution units (PDU), traction drives, inverters, converters, and auxiliary systems.
- Lead electrical design activities for machine electrification, motor drives, switchgear, and power systems.
- Develop electrical schematics, wiring harness layouts, and component packaging using electrical CAD tools.
- Define system-level requirements, electrical interfaces, and component specifications.
- Design and integrate HV battery systems, traction motors, inverters, and charging systems.
- Develop HV safety architecture including HVIL, insulation monitoring, pre-charge circuits, and battery disconnect units.
- Support electrification initiatives for mining equipment.
- Electrical Component & Subsystem Development
- Develop PDU design, HV/LV wiring harnesses, and electrical distribution systems.
- Integrate CAN-based vehicle networks (CAN J1939) for system communication.
- Develop CAN DBC files and diagnostic strategies.
- Conduct system diagnostics using tools such as CANalyzer, PEAK CAN, and other diagnostic platforms.
- Perform electrical load analysis, power system studies, and fault simulations.
- Conduct short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and transient analysis using tools such as ETAP and MATLAB.
- Evaluate thermal behaviour and energy efficiency of electrical systems.
- Develop Design Validation Plans (DVPSR) for electrical systems and components.
- Perform HIL testing, functional safety validation, and EMC/EMI testing.
- Support New Product Development (NPD) programs from concept to production.
- Conduct DFMEA, DFMA, risk analysis, and design reviews.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams on product development initiatives.
- Support prototype builds, testing, and field validation activities.

- Support supplier development, component sourcing, and technical reviews.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical / Electronic Engineering or related field.
Experience
- 7-11 years of experience in electrical system design and development.
- Experience in off-highway equipment, electric vehicles, mining machinery.
- Proven experience in HV electrical systems, drives, battery systems, and machine electrification.
