Join Our Team as a Mechanical Designer at Epiroc!

Responsible for aiding with the researching, designing, developing, testing and commissioning various Mechanical systems developed at EES Vancouver.

 

Responsibilities

  • Help with the design of the mechanical systems associated with their project(s)
  • Responsible for the function and safety of the mechanical systems associated with their project(s)
  • Critically review mechanical system designs
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with various people across the Epiroc Organisation, Customers and other stakeholders to achieve project goals
  • Identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Prepare technical documentation:
    - Part drawings, FEA reports, Various types of design reports, FMEA Analysis’, ISO, CSA and other industry standards, etc
  • Identify opportunities for process and design improvement/optimization
  • Plan for and execute testing and commissioning of the systems created as part of assigned projects
  • Work alongside others for the integration of various systems, ensuring compatibility, efficiency, safety and reliability across the entire system
  • Maintaining assigned project's CAD and PLM data
  • Creation of technical drawings and reports

 

Knowledge/Education

  • Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering degree, diploma, or similar
  • 2+ years of related industry experience (preferred)
  • Experience with functional safety application design and development under IEC EN 61508
  • Baseline understanding of programming logic and how it controls mechatronic systems
  • In-depth understanding of standard and prototyping manufacturing processes including, casting, forging, welding, milling, lathing, cutting (various types), bending, 3D printing
  • In-depth understanding of Mechanical engineering principles
  • In-depth knowledge of integrating battery systems, electric drivetrains, power electronics, thermal management and other components to create a fully functional vehicle. Integration involves the physical placement and connection of components and ensuring compatibility, efficiency, safety and reliability across the entire system
  • Baseline knowledge of various communication protocols such as CAN and Ethernet
  • Baseline understanding of various types of sensors, actuators and their respective control requirements
  • Knowledge of, and experience with industry standards
  • Proficient in 3D modelling, CAD best practices, and large assembly management

  • Ability to understand system schematics and diagrams. e.g. Mechanical, Hydraulic, Cooling, Electrical, Functional block diagrams
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Logical and methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Friendly disposition. Work well with people of various backgrounds, skillsets, demeanors, and positions
  • An ability and desire to push the boundaries of themselves
  • Ability to perform general assembly, fabrication and manufacturing

Wage/salary for position: $85,540.00 – 108,482.00
