Job Description: Application Engineer / Senior Application Engineer – Rock Drilling Tools

Location: Pune

Department: Rock Drilling Tools

Reports To: Contracts and Application Manager

 

Job Summary

We are looking for a proactive and technically competent Application Engineer / Senior Application Engineer – Rock Drilling Tools to provide application support, technical guidance, customer service, and inventory planning support for drilling and mining consumables. The role will work closely with customers, internal teams, and channel partners to ensure uninterrupted site operations, improve tool performance, optimize inventory levels, and support business growth through effective technical engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Application Support

  • Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable rock drilling tools, products, and technical solutions.
  • Provide technical presentations, product demonstrations, and application guidance to customers and site teams.
  • Ensure correct utilization and consumption of drilling tools at customer sites.
  • Monitor drilling performance, tool life, consumption trends, and drill meterage.
  • Investigate tool failures, conduct basic failure analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor application performance and provide hands-on technical support.
  • Prepare technical performance reports, Daily Progress Reports (DPR), and site visit reports.
  • Coordinate with product specialists and marketing teams to ensure the right tool selection for specific applications.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, site teams, and key stakeholders.
  • Support customers by resolving technical, application, and operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product performance, customer satisfaction, and overall site productivity.

Dealer Support

  • Support and develop channel partners through regular engagement, product support, and application guidance.
  • Assist dealers in resolving product application issues, operational concerns, and warranty-related cases.
  • Monitor dealer performance and recommend improvement actions to enhance customer service and business effectiveness.
  • Develop dealer engineers’ technical competence through regular training, coaching, and application support.
  • Competence development of  dealer engineers

Planning & Inventory Management

  • Plan and maintain site inventory to ensure uninterrupted operations and avoid stock-out situations.
  • Prepare and submit material requirements based on customer forecasts, consumption trends, and contractual commitments.
  • Review monthly forecasts and align inventory planning with site requirements and business priorities.
  • Monitor stock levels, conduct inventory reconciliation, and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Ensure timely procurement of consumables while maintaining agreed buffer stock levels.
  • Track order status, dispatch schedules, shipment movement, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate material transfers between warehouses, dealers, and mine sites as required.
  • Prepare periodic inventory, consumption, forecast, and variance reports for review.

Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate with logistics and supply chain teams for timely submission of forecasts and material requirements.
  • Monitor Goods in Transit (GIT) and proactively follow up to avoid delivery delays.
  • Recommend appropriate shipment modes based on urgency, cost, and operational requirements.
  • Support preventive planning to avoid material shortages and ensure smooth site operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of surface and underground drilling applications is preferred.

Experience

  • 3–7 years of experience in mining, construction, heavy equipment, drilling tools, or industrial consumables.
  • Experience in application engineering, customer technical support, product support, or field service is preferred.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mining, drilling, construction equipment, or rock drilling tools.
  • Inventory planning, material management, and consumption monitoring.
  • Forecasting, supply chain coordination, and logistics follow-up.
  • Customer relationship management and dealer support.
  • Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and basic failure analysis.
  • Good communication, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems; SAP experience will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and travel to customer sites as required.
