Head – SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality) & IMS (Integrated Management System) - Epiroc India

Key Role Objective:
Lead and implement Epiroc's comprehensive SHEQ and IMS strategy across India operations, ensuring alignment with international best practices and Epiroc's global safety vision. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, foster a proactive safety culture, and manage enterprise-wide risk while leading a multidisciplinary team of 5+ SHEQ professionals to achieve operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Strategic Responsibilities
Integrated Management System Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance Epiroc's Integrated Management System (IMS), including Healthy, Safety, Environment and Quality, certified to ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001:2018
- Ensure seamless integration of all management systems to create a single unit with unified objectives
- Establish and maintain alignment between local operations and Epiroc's global SHEQ standards and corporate policies
- Drive digital transformation initiatives within SHEQ processes, leveraging technology for enhanced monitoring and reporting
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure comprehensive compliance with ISO standards (9001:2015, 14001:2015, 45001:2018), Indian regulatory requirements, and Epiroc corporate mandates
- Develop and implement robust risk assessment frameworks for all operations, contractors, and supply chain partners
- Establish proactive legal compliance monitoring systems and provide strategic guidance to management on emerging SHEQ regulations
- Lead enterprise risk management initiatives with focus on operational, environmental, and reputational risks
Audit & Assessment Excellence:
- Design and execute comprehensive audit programs including internal, supplier, customer, and third-party certification audits
- Implement advanced audit tracking systems with real-time monitoring of findings, corrective actions, and closure verification
- Establish audit quality metrics and continuous improvement processes for audit effectiveness
- Lead preparation and support for external certification body audits and regulatory inspections
Incident Management & Continuous Improvement:
- Lead comprehensive incident investigation processes including root cause analysis, lessons learned, and preventive action implementation
- Develop and maintain advanced incident reporting systems with trend analysis and predictive capabilities
- Drive corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs with measurable outcomes and organizational learning integration
- Champion behavioural safety programs and culture transformation initiatives across all levels
Performance Management & Reporting
Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Develop and maintain advanced SHEQ performance dashboards with real-time KPI monitoring
- Compile comprehensive weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports with trend analysis and benchmarking
- Establish SHEQ objectives aligned with Epiroc's sustainability goals and business strategy
- Lead data analytics initiatives to identify improvement opportunities and drive evidence-based decisions
Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship:
- Drive environmental management programs aligned with Epiroc's sustainability commitments
- Develop and implement carbon footprint reduction initiatives and environmental impact minimization strategies
- Lead waste management, energy efficiency, and resource conservation programs
- Establish environmental monitoring systems and reporting frameworks
Team Leadership & Development
Team Management Excellence:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 5+ SHEQ professionals across multiple locations and business divisions
- Implement competency-based development programs and succession planning for SHEQ roles
- Foster collaborative culture with effective resource allocation and cross-functional team integration
- Drive performance management through regular coaching, feedback, and professional development planning
Organizational Capability Building:
- Design and deliver SHEQ training programs for all organizational levels from frontline workers to senior management
- Develop SHEQ competency frameworks and certification pathways for technical and non-technical roles
- Create and maintain SHEQ communication strategies that promote awareness and engagement
- Champion safety culture transformation through leadership development and behavior change programs
Required Qualifications & Certifications:
Educational Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related technical field
Additional Professional Certifications (Preferred):
- NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
- Lead Auditor certification for ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018
- IOSH, OSHA, CMIOSH, or equivalent international qualifications
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 12 - 18 years of progressive experience in SHEQ and IMS management within mining, heavy manufacturing, or similar high-risk industrial sectors
- Demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional teams of 5+ professionals with multi-site responsibilities
- Proven experience in managing large-scale SHEQ transformation projects and system implementations
- Experience with digital SHEQ technologies, data analytics, and automation preferred
Essential Skills & Competencies
Technical Expertise:
- Advanced knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment methodologies, and control hierarchy implementation
- Expertise in incident investigation techniques, root cause analysis, and behavioral safety principles
- Proficiency in change management, project management, and process improvement methodologies
- Technical understanding of mining equipment, industrial processes, and associated SHEQ risks
Leadership & Communication:
- Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities with proven ability to influence at all organizational levels
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English and local Indian languages
- Strong presentation skills with ability to communicate complex SHEQ concepts to diverse audiences
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills for stakeholder management
Business Acumen:
- Strategic thinking with ability to align SHEQ initiatives with business objectives and financial performance
- Understanding of Indian regulatory landscape and international SHEQ best practices
- Project management expertise with demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
- Change management skills with experience in organizational transformation and culture change
Additional Requirements
Regulatory Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of Indian SHEQ legislation including Factory Act, Environment Protection Act, and state-specific regulations
- Knowledge of international standards and frameworks (ICMM, GRI, SASB) for sustainability reporting
- Familiarity with customer and industry-specific SHEQ requirements for mining and construction sectors
Technology & Innovation:
- Experience with SHEQ management software, mobile applications, and digital reporting tools
- Knowledge of IoT, AI, and predictive analytics applications in SHEQ management
- Understanding of Industry 4.0 concepts and their application to safety and quality management
