Position objective
The primary objective of this role is to provide technical support for Yieldpoint geotechnical monitoring products and associated systems. This includes commissioning, calibration, troubleshooting, data integration, and ongoing operational support. The engineer works closely with customer geotechnical, instrumentation and IT teams to ensure accurate data acquisition, system reliability and full alignment with site geotechnical monitoring requirements.
Specific tasks and responsibilities, but are not limited to:
- Installation, Commissioning & Technical Support
- Lead commissioning and calibration of Yieldpoint instruments (d‑Logger, d‑Reader, on‑board sensors, load cells, convergence systems, etc.).
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues related to Yieldpoint systems.
- Support deployment and maintenance of automated geotechnical data acquisition networks, including gateways, repeaters, and telemetry systems.
- Ensure proper configuration of data sampling, logging, signal stabilization and sensor performance.
Customer Interaction & Field Support:
- Work closely with customer geotechnical departments to define monitoring needs, installation plans, and data interpretation requirements.
- Collaborate with mine operations and instrumentation crews to ensure safe and accurate installation in underground or surface environments.
- Provide timely responses to customer technical inquiries and remote support when needed.
Systems Integration & IT Collaboration:
- Collaborate with customer IT teams to define network, connectivity and compatibility requirements for Yieldpoint systems.
- Assist with integration of Yieldpoint data into customer monitoring platforms (e.g., databases, dashboards, analysis systems).
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity and data management procedures.
Data Quality & Analytics:
- Monitor and review system performance to ensure accuracy and consistency of geotechnical measurements.
- Conduct preliminary data analysis and provide recommendations to geotechnical stakeholders when anomalies or sensor issues are detected.
- Prepare reports summarizing system performance, failures, and improvements.
Liaison with OEM (Yieldpoint):
- Communicate with Yieldpoint engineering teams to obtain technical guidance, report issues, and submit feedback for product improvement.
- Participate in testing of new firmware, sensors or system enhancements.
Engineering Compliance:
- Follow engineering change management procedures.
- Prepare technical documents, installation reports, and maintenance logs.
- Support safety, operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities – Epiroc Ground Support Testing:
- Support testing and validation of Epiroc roof support products, including various rock reinforcement systems.
- Assist with installation, monitoring, and evaluation of rock bolt, cable bolt and mesh reinforcement test rigs.
- Conduct data collection and reporting related to rock bolt performance, load–displacement behavior, deformation patterns and system integrity.
- Coordinate with geotechnical engineers to analyze test results and verify compliance with relevant safety and performance standards.
- Provide technical feedback to Epiroc product teams to support advancement and optimization of ground support technologies.
Formal knowledge and experience needed:
- Degree in IT Engineering or Instrumentation or Geotechnical Engineering or Mining Engineering, Electronics or related technical discipline.
- Experience working with geotechnical instrumentation is highly desirable.
- Experience with underground or surface mining operations is an advantage.
- Practical field experience installing or supporting monitoring equipment in mining or heavy industry.
- Intermediate to advanced IT knowledge.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work independently.
- Valid driver's license.
